Glasgow based wholesaler UWG Ltd. identified chilled and frozen food as a key market for internal expansion however to facilitate this their current facilities required a total overhaul including an extension to the warehouse and further chilled and frozen displays. UWG wanted to maximise the frozen and chilled display space and were keen to look at options that would provide savings on energy consumption going forward.
Capital Cooling worked closely with the UWG management team to formulate a proposal that not only satisfied their expansion requirements but will also deliver energy savings which will continue to benefit their business in the years to come.
Capital offers an end to end support service with a dedicated account manager looking after all aspects from system design and specification to delivery, installation and commissioning. This gives clients total confidence that the project will be delivered on time and on budget with exceptional results and was a large factor in UWG’s decision to choose Capital as a supplier.
For the chilled display area the UWG team wanted to maximise display area to ensure that time spent re-stocking would be kept to a minimum. To extract the maximum display space the Capital team suggested that the Saturn MK2 Maxi case was the best option. This model has a depth of 1100mm – 210mm more than the standard model – which adds 15.75m ² of shelf space across the full 15m run. This increased display area made the cabinet perfect for the high volume, wholesale sized products that it would be housing.
With the cases multiplexed together to create a single run of 15 metres the loss of cold air and subsequent running costs prompted the team to look into the option of full glass doors. Capital recommended the used of our dual pane; auto close sliding doors which would see energy consumption reduced by approximately 40%.
The Capital Cooling installations team paired up these cases with the all new Capital Products remote condensing units. These high quality refrigeration systems feature an industry leading scroll compressor and have been tailored to exactly match the requirements of the Saturn cases.
Frozen food was identified as a real growth opportunity for UWG. More and more convenience stores of all sizes are offering frozen food to their customers so demand at a wholesale level has been increasing rapidly. The UWG management team were looking to add up to 20 metres of frozen food display to satisfy this demand and after weighing up the benefits of both integral and remote systems the decision was taken to install the Hercules integral freezers as the significant cost saving for installation outweighed any benefits seen in the lower running costs of the remote system. The Hercules is an exceptionally energy efficient freezer utilising horizontal scroll compressor technology and it is environmentally friendly too – utilising Hydrocarbon refrigerant which has zero ozone depleting properties.
To achieve the desired run of 20 metres the decision was taken to use no fewer than 8 of the three door Hercules models. As these cases have an integral refrigeration system the installation was quick and simple – the skilled Capital Cooling team moved the equipment into position and then all that was required was the power supply – courtesy of a 16A C-Form plug – to get the freezers up and running.
The end result is a striking display of chilled and frozen food which has seen UWG report increased sales in both sectors.
Rahan Ali-Irshad of United Wholesale commented;
"I have found the experience of dealing with Capital Cooling at every stage from pre sales, installation and after care to be nothing short of excellent.
The entire team have been very co-operative and have worked to the timescales, deadlines and short notice periods that I have asked; in particular I feel that I need to praise Mr Gerry Simpson, as he has been available round the clock to make sure that we have been looked after.
I feel that the investment made in the freezers and chillers have already contributed to an uplift in frozen and provision sales. I would have no hesitation in recommending Capital Cooling to any one of my customers or suppliers"
