Retail: Oaka Glasgow

Adding a touch of Oriental style to Glasgow’s city centre Oaka Supercity is the latest specialist food outlet that is taking the city by storm. Located just a short walk from George Square Oaka is in the perfect position to capitalise on both the office workers and the large student population found in the area.

This large unit combines both an Asian Superstore, stocking a wide range of products not found elsewhere and a Street Food Station where shoppers can enjoy a range of exciting and unique hot food options.

Eric Caira, Director of Oaka describes the thoughts behind their new store; "Our Vision is simple, we wanted to bring service, convenience and an element of style to the Asian foods marketplace. Our aim was to design an attractive store that would allow our customers to believe not only in our brand but the products we sell and create a more comfortable experience for our customers to browse our isles and eat at our Street Food Station.”

Eric and the team have certainly achieved that, creating a striking store that really does stand out from the crowd.

The entire Capital Cooling team are proud to have worked in partnership with Oaka and Direct Shelving Services on this project, supplying both the chilled and frozen displays.

For the chilled display we installed the all new Trojan MK2 remote multideck. This display chiller has the perfect blend of appearance and performance to suit the design brief for the store. The Trojan comes in a wide range of sizes and for this site two 2.5m cases were multiplexed together to create a 5 metre run of refrigeration. These were installed by the Capital Cooling team and seamlessly integrated into the store design by direct shelving.

The frozen food display comprises of three Vulcan V3 units multiplexed together to create a striking focal point within the store. The Vulcan is a remote display freezer that comes in 2, 3, 4 and 5 door variants enabling stores to create a frozen display that perfectly suits their requirements. Again these units were installed by the Capital Cooling team and finished off by the shopfitting team.

When asked about the equipment supplied Eric commented; “In terms of equipment for the store, in particular our retail fridges and freezers, we spent quite a long time researching different suppliers and different ranges. Capital Cooling's range of freezers and fridges were both the most cost effective on the market but also gave a very personal service. A sales consultant came out to site to discuss the range, time scales and different running options and gave their advice which is sometimes more important. In the end we believe we have gone with the right company - our fridges and freezers look great and also run at a consistent temperature, which is the basics of what we were looking for to begin with!"

Next time you are in Glasgow make sure you pay a visit to Oaka Supercity where we are sure you will be more than impressed with this fantastic new addition to the area.
